Paloma Vivanco-Coutts's biography
Apprentice candidate- Series 6 Paloma Vivanco exploded on our television screens with a no nonsense attitude and a fire in her belly to match. Her outspoken behaviour proved her undoing in the boardroom but since the experience has continued to harness her passion for business including a new venture that runs deep into her Latin roots.
The 30-year-old London based businesswoman has led a melting pot of life experiences. Having spent periods of her life in the United States, Australia and New Zealand, Paloma was born and bred in the Peruvian capital Lima.
Freshly graduated with a Commerce degree, Paloma embarked on her own company at age 21 but since then moved on into the Telecommunications industry where she spent the next 10 years building up a successful marketing career.
Having worked for some of the biggest Telecoms providers in senior marketing, product and commercial positions including: Telecom New Zealand, 3 Mobile, British Telecom, Vodafone Group and Virgin Mobile, Paloma’s wealth of mobile & telecoms experience is now being used as a consultant to tier 1 mobile operators around the globe. ‘I love the mobile industry – it is fast paced, on the move and always an exciting industry to be in.’
Paloma’s entrepreneurial drive has also seen her launch a new venture, one that has been in the making for years- a fine fibre Alpaca knitwear company called INACIA. Businesses often live and die by the passion shown in the product by their founder, yet there’s no doubting the passion behind this sustainable business. ‘This venture blends my passion for knitwear, sustainable business and my cultural roots. I believe that businesses should always aim to have a good balance between profit, people and planet. When you buy into my products you are buying into my values’. INACIA is already stocked in London boutiques but Paloma is looking to expand the operation across Europe where she is getting new enquiries.
Since her stint on the hit BBC show, Paloma has begun public speaking engagements to talk about her experiences on the show as well as her career and business venture. She’s also begun working with a number of charitable organisations. ‘One of the most rewarding things about my experience on the show has been being able to use this to help charities boost their profile and generate the funds they need. I recently hosted a charity auction where we managed to raise over £150K in funds for a worthy cause that evening, it was a real buzz.’
Paloma demonstrates a hunger for success and her driving force she puts firmly down to her innate passion. ‘Anyone that has worked with me will know that I’m all or nothing. I don’t operate in grey areas, if I want to do something I will pour my everything into it. I guess I also expect that same level of commitment back from others’.
